How does psychoanalytic psychotherapy work?

The psychotherapist provides a confidential, neutral place where feelings, conflicts and dilemmas can be explored through the client talking freely. Most people feel some apprehension at first, but there is no right or wrong thing to say. It is very much a place for you to learn more about yourself.

What does psychoanalytic psychotherapy involve?

Psychoanalytic psychotherapy involves a long-term commitment of between one and three sessions per week.

Because the relationship that forms is an important part of the process, it is accepted that prospective clients will investigate other psychotherapists, to ensure compatibility.

Psychoanalytic psychotherapists undergo a four-year training, and on qualifying, are registered with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), subscribing to its Code of Ethics.
